>> this just in tonight. a wild fire is forcing thousands of people from their homes and from campgrounds in the mountains pov santa barbara. firefighters say 20 mile an hour winds are fanning thosefires. at this point, it's unclear what sparked it. also, the unofficial start of summer, but you would never know it by looking outside. >> there are showers across the bay area. roads are slick and there's a significant flight delay. >> yeah, rog, quince dentally enough, they're also seeing con dugss just as why we have in 2013.

as we zoom in and get a closer look, moving off to the south. this is also impacting the peninsula here from redwood city down to palo alto. it's very scattered in nature. airport delays are the worst in the nation light now in san francisco. we do expect them through gradually over the next few hours.

buddy apparently fell inside the well. they actually added water to raise the level of the well. >> speed and alcohol played part in the deadly sdent. nbc bay area is live with sochl dramatic video to this story. >> reporter: jessica boulevard is once again open to some travic. you can see, there is a growing memorial to remember three victims of this crash. this is the spot where two cars made contact and the mustang split in two.

people light candles where people chied in a car accident. the driver of the honda had minor injuries. the mustang split in two ejecting three passengers who all died at the scene. police say the driver, 25-year-old paul diaz took off running after the accident and may have gone to this house on a street. police spent hours here collecting evidence. >> the police chief did tell me at that point that there was an accident and that i can't understand if one person was next door, i kind of gathered that.

while police collected everyday, diaz turned himself in to daly city police. investigators say speed and alcohol may be a factor in this accident. >> james newton along with others came to the scene of the accident. newton came to remember jonathan, a friend who dreamed of becoming a mechanic. >> he accomplished that. he did. he went to school. he got all of his kre ken credentials to become part of society. >> now, the driver of that mugs tang facing charges of felony hit and run. reporting live, jeenl ellie, nbc bay area news. >> the numbers are in.

controversial idea. the councilman repitched the idea. the idea stems from a 2011 grand jury report. the rort indicates 70% are not even fire related. >> we could raise taxes and reorganize what we do in the city. >> it ee's expected any day now. a decision from prop 8. the ruling could come as early as tomorrow.

on this memorial day, a young peninsula woman went to do something she had never done before. pay her respects to her great uncle. it's a personal story, but with a message for all of us. nbc bay area joins us from the veteran's cemetery. >> yeah, looking for the true meaning of memorial day, came here to pay tribute to her great uncle who was killed in the korean war in 1953. it took a little while for mare gregory to find her great uncle today. she's never been to his grave site before. but felt moved to come on this

memorial day. >> hefgs only 22. and i just wanted to pay respects because i just turned 24 and i really just -- i felt like it would be good to honor him. >> but mary feels many members of her generation don't get that. >> they may be impb different to it. they may not fully comprehend, you know, how important it is and how important these people are. they gave so much of our lives just to keep us safe and to keep us protected. >> and while he does not consider himself super patriotic, he does wonder about want he's seeing this memorial day. >> we're still at war in so many places.
